How it works

The loop in three steps.

lexica finds the gap between what you already know and what your field actually demands, then closes it 10 minutes a day.

01

Find your cliff

A short self-assessment maps where your knowledge of the top 10,000 English words drops off. We use SUBTLEX-US, an academic frequency corpus built from 50 million spoken-word transcripts, so the bands match what people actually say.

Three-state self-rating (solid, shaky, unknown) per item. Around 50 items, 5 to 8 minutes. You see your cliff band and a histogram by frequency tier when you finish.

02

Pick your vertical

Free tier covers core vocabulary. Paid vertical tracks (tech, pharma, hospitality, legal, ...) layer scenario nuggets and domain-specific words on top, curated by people who actually work in that field.

Each track is split by persona (Software Engineer, Pharmacist, Lab Technician, ...) and CEFR level (A2 through C2). You get the cards that match your role and your level, not generic SAT prep.

03

Daily 10-minute sessions

Spaced repetition serves the right words at the right time. Every card has a hero image, an audio clip, IPA, and a real example sentence. The bits that stick longer.

Practice in the web app, or export to Anki / Mochi / RemNote with media URLs intact. Your progress syncs back so the next session knows what you remembered.

Principles

What makes lexica different.

Native-language aware

If your native language is Spanish or Portuguese, lexica shows English content with optional translations under hints and notes. Card questions and answers stay English-only because that is what you are practicing.

Curated by domain experts

Nuggets are not auto-generated slop. A pharmacist drafts the pharmacy nuggets, a senior engineer drafts the engineering ones. We use AI to draft the first pass; humans review every line before it ships.

Anki-first export

Your data is yours. TSV with media URLs, .apkg packages, no lock-in. If lexica disappears tomorrow, your decks keep working in any SRS that takes tab-separated input.

Built in public

Roadmap is public, waitlist votes influence priority, and shipping cadence shows up in the changelog. No fake scarcity, no dark patterns.
